SMARTcodes

The Digital Alchemy team was contracted in a seminal project by the International Code Council (ICC). ICC is the organization that writes many (if not most) of the building codes for the US and other countries. The goal of the SMARTcodes project was to demonstrate that it was possible to semi-automate building code compliance checking using BIMs. A proof of concept implementation for the system was developed and demonstrated in several venues in 2007/2008. The project lost funding due to the recession that began in 2008, but the technology remains and is ready for application in several areas that could dramatically improve efficiencies in the building industry.
